About the Blog
I began this blog in 2009 during my second trip to Ladakh and it’s been rolling ever since. Many people wonder why I travel and photograph in India, a place known for poverty, health risks, appalling discrimination, terrorism and so on. This is my answer:
For a photographer, the diversity of India can’t be matched anywhere else in the world… Twenty-nine states that are almost like countries in themselves. The birthplace of some of the world’s great religions and arguably the mother ship of Asian culture. A billion people on the rise with more cell phones than toilets. A openness and gentleness in many people that I do not see at home. A beautiful landscape that starts at the roof of the world and ends at a teardrop in the Indian Ocean. Indian food. Curious kids (and adults). Fabulous body language and clothing. Vibrant colors in stunning combinations. Ancient monuments, traditional cultures, globalization and everything in-between. And so on. For all of India’s social failures and travel hassles, it’s an extraordinary place that never fails to reward me with amazing experiences and images.
More recently I’ve traveled in Cambodia, Burma and Thailand, following some of the threads I found in India, and my plan is to continue however I can for as long as possible. There’s still Japan, Laos, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Tibet, Iran, Uzbekistan, Yemen, Turkey, Tunisia, Spain, Portugal and so on. I’m interested in it ALL.
